About Terry Gross
Terry Gross, born on February 14, 1951 in New York, is a renowned radio host recognized for her work in producing and hosting the popular National Public Radio (NPR) interview-based talk program Fresh Air. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Award (1981), Peabody Award (1993), Gracie Allen Award (1999), Edward R. Murrow Award (2003), and the National Book Foundation’s Literarian Award in 2007.
Prior to her success as a radio personality, Terry obtained undergraduate and graduate degrees from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She began her professional journey at Buffalo’s WBFO public radio station before launching Fresh Air on Philadelphia’s WHYY-FM station in 1975. A decade later, NPR picked up syndication of the show nationwide.
Despite a successful career behind the mic, Terry also ventured into voice acting with an appearance on The Simpsons in 2008. Raised in Brooklyn within a Jewish family background, she eventually settled in Philadelphia where she married Francis Davis – a journalist known for his contributions to Atlantic Monthly and Village Voice music criticism.
