Gracie Allen was a well-known American movie actress, born on July 26, 1895 in San Francisco, California. She is most famous for her scatterbrained comedic style and as the partner of George Burns. In 1937, she starred in “A Damsel in Distress” and became synonymous with the phrase “Goodnight, Gracie.”
Prior to her acting career, Allen joined her sisters to perform Irish Folk Dances. One interesting piece of trivia about her is that there has been much debate surrounding her date of birth. Her death certificate stated July 26, 1902 as her birthdate while many newspapers listed it as 1906 at the time of her death. However, the discovery of the 1900 U.S Census revealed that she was actually born on July 26th, 1895.
Allen married actor George Burns and together they adopted two children in the 1930s. She also had a marriage to Fred Astaire and acted alongside him in “A Damsel in Distress.”
