About Susan Huntington Gilbert Dickinson
Susan Huntington Gilbert Dickinson (December 19, 1830) was an American writer and poet recognized for her association with her sister-in-law, Emily Dickinson. Born in Massachusetts, she attended Utica Female Academy and Amherst Academy before marrying William Austin Dickinson in 1856.
Throughout her life, Susan contributed several stories to the Springfield Republican and authored poems such as “Love’s Reckoning” and “One Asked, When Was the Grief?”. Despite being Anglican, she contemplated converting to Roman Catholicism and even wrote Emily Dickinson‘s obituary upon her passing. Susan Huntington Gilbert Dickinson passed away on May 12th in the year of 1913.
