About Sonya Curry
Sonya Curry (born May 30, 1966) is a former volleyball player at Virginia Tech University who later became an educator. She is also known for her marriage to ex-NBA player Dell Curry in 1988 and as the mother of NBA superstar Stephen Curry, former Duke guard Seth Curry, and volleyball player Sydel Curry.
She was born in Virginia and gained recognition as a standout basketball and volleyball player in high school, winning state championships while at Radford High. Sonya’s heritage includes African American Creole and Haitian ethnicity. After marrying Dell Curry, they moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where she became president of the Christian Montessori School of Lake Norman.
In addition to her noteworthy family life and educational pursuits, Sonya continues to be recognized for her past accomplishments in sports – both on the court during her university years and through raising three accomplished athletes of her own.
