Margaret Smith, born on January 1, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois, is a comedian, actress, writer and producer known for her deadpan performance style. She gained recognition as a writer and producer for The Ellen DeGeneres Show and for her role as Margaret the record store owner in That ’70s Show.
Smith began her career studying improvisational comedy at Second City in Chicago during the 1970s before transitioning to stand-up comedy in New York during the 1980s. She made appearances on popular television shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with David Letterman. Additionally,she also appeared in films including Goodfellas and the remake of The Blob.
In 2008 she published her first book titled “What Was I Thinking? How Being a Stand Up Did Nothing to Prepare Me to Become a Single Mother.” She has two sons and came from a family of six children raised by her mother and stepfather.
Throughout her career she made guest appearances on various TV series such as VIP alongside Pamela Anderson, showcasing her diverse talents across different platforms.
