Katherine Helmond, born on July 5, 1928 in Galveston, Texas, was an American TV actress known for her role as grandmother Mona Robinson on the popular TV show Who’s The Boss. She also portrayed Emily Dickinson in Meeting of Minds, Mrs. Ida Lowry in Brazil and Ray’s mother-in-law in Everybody Loves Raymond.
Before gaining fame in the entertainment industry, she taught acting at various university programs and summer theaters. In addition to her television work, she voiced the character Lizzie in the 2006 animated feature Cars.
Helmond was married twice: first to George N. Martin in 1957 and then to David Christian in 1962.
