About Zara Cully
Zara Cully, born on January 26, 1892 in Worcester, Massachusetts, was a prominent TV actress known for her role as Mother Jefferson in the popular CBS sitcom The Jeffersons during the 1970s and 1980s. She also made appearances in other series such as All In the Family, Cowboy in Africa, and Playhouse 90.
Prior to her fame on television, Cully began her acting career by participating in theatrical productions both in New York City and Jacksonville, Florida.
After a battle with lung cancer that led to her passing at the age of eighty-six, she received a posthumous NAACP Special Image Award. Cully was one of ten children who grew up in Worcester. She was married to James M. Brown Sr., with whom she had four children.
