About Zana Briski
Zana Briski is a British photographer and film director, born on October 25, 1966 in London, England. She gained recognition for her documentary Born into Brothels: Calcutta’s Red Light Kids, which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film. Throughout ten years in Calcutta, she worked on this project and founded the non-profit organization Kids with Cameras.
Prior to her fame as a filmmaker and humanitarian, Zana Briski attended the University of Cambridge and the International Center of Photography. In 2005, she was honored with the Lucie Humanitarian Award and has continued sharing her nature photography through her zanabriski Instagram account.
Aside from her work in documenting social issues and human rights causes, Zana Briski also spent twelve years seeking out remote places to photograph insects using primarily 35mm black-and-white film with a Leica macro camera. Hailing from London, England, she continues to make an impact through her artistry and advocacy efforts.
