About Yvonne Chouteau
Yvonne Chouteau (born March 7, 1929) is a trained dancer who was one of only five prima ballerinas in all of Oklahoma. She was born in Texas to a family of French and Shawnee ancestry. As a four-year-old, she watched Alexandra Danilova dance in Oklahoma City and was inspired to pursue a career in performing.
Chouteau became the youngest member of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame when she was inducted at eighteen years old. Along with her husband, Miguel Terekhov, she established the first fully accredited dance program at the college level. The couple married shortly after Chouteau became a successful ballerina.
