About Yuri Alvear
Yuri Alvear, born on March 29, 1986 in Jamundi, Colombia, is a Colombian judoka known for her achievements in the sport. She has won the World Judo Championships in the 70 kilogram weight class in 2009, 2013 and 2014. Additionally, she has secured several Pan American Judo titles and earned a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games.
Prior to her success in judo, Alvear excelled in various sports including handball, volleyball and water polo during her formative years. At the age of fourteen, she was introduced to judo by Ruperto Guauna which eventually led to her remarkable career in the sport.
An interesting fact about Yuri Alvear is that her bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics marked the first Olympic medal won by any Colombian judoka.
In terms of personal life, Yuri’s father Arnuy worked as a construction worker while her mother Miryam was a housewife. Additionally, she has a brother named Harvy.
