About Yolandita Monge
Yolandita Monge, born on September 16, 1955 in Puerto Rico, is a renowned pop singer. She holds the distinction of being the first Puerto Rican female artist to receive a Grammy nomination and has achieved record album sales as of 2014 compared to any other female recording artist from Puerto Rico.
Monge’s career took off when she gained recognition after winning a radio contest at just 11 years old. This led to her debut appearance on the television show “Luis Vigoreaux Presenta.” Her song “Cierra Los Ojos” or “Close Your Eyes,” released in 1975, became an international hit and enjoyed significant success in countries such as Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Argentina, and the Dominican Republic.
In terms of family life, Monge is the mother of famous singer Noelia. In 1983, she married Venezuelan singer Balbino with whom she had her daughter Paolo. Furthermore, her son Imanol was born from her marriage to Carlos Mamery in 1989.
