About Winnie Holzman
Winnie Holzman (born August 18, 1954) is a screenwriter known for her work on the ABC television series My So-Called Life, as well as writing for thirtysomething and Once and Again. She co-wrote the book for the stage musical Wicked, earning accolades such as a scriptwriting Emmy Award nomination and a Tony Award nomination for Best Book of a Musical.
Holzman earned an English degree with a concentration in Creative Writing from Princeton University before completing her master’s degree in musical Theatre Writing at New York University on full scholarship. Notably, she was instructed by renowned figures like Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein.
Aside from her professional achievements, Holzman has made cameo appearances in her own TV shows, guest starred in Curb Your Enthusiasm, and had a small role in the film Jerry Maguire. She comes from a Jewish family and is married to actor Paul Dooley; together they have one daughter named Savannah.
