Wendy Smith (born May 31, 1963) is an English musician best known for her role as the singer and guitarist of the pop band Prefab Sprout. Born in Middlesbrough, England, she joined Prefab Sprout in 1983 and remained with the band until 2001, contributing to six of their studio albums.
Following her time with Prefab Sprout, Smith took on the role of Director of Contemporary Music at Sage Gateshead concert venue and musical education center.
In addition to her music career, Smith is actively engaged in environmental causes. She shares nature photos on her wendy___smith Instagram account and supports Forum for the Future, a sustainability non-profit organization.
Smith shifted into teaching after becoming pregnant and due to a period of inactivity for Prefab Sprout. She currently resides with her son named Finn.
