About Wendelin Van Draanen
Wendelin Van Draanen, born on January 6, 1965 in Chicago, Illinois, is a well-known children’s author. She is famous for her Sammy Keyes, Shredderman, and Gecko & Sticky series of children’s books. In 1999 she received the Mystery Writers of America’s prestigious Edgar Allan Poe Award.
A childhood inspired by Ray Bradbury and young adult series like the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew led to her first literary work being published in the late 1990s – How I Survived Being a Girl. Prior to becoming a writer, she taught mathematics and computer science at the high school level.
Van Draanen was raised in Chicago by Dutch-born scientists but later settled in California with her husband Mark Parsons and their two children.
