About Warsan Shire
Warsan Shire is a poet born on August 1, 1988 in Kenya. She gained acclaim for her works such as Teaching My Mother How To Give Birth and Her Blue Body. In 2013, she won Brunel University’s African Poetry Prize. Shire and her family immigrated to the United Kingdom when she was a toddler, where she developed her passion for poetry as a teenager by joining a youth club. In 2014, she served as Queensland, Australia’s poet in residence.
She has siblings named Saaid, Samawado, Suban and Salma.
