About Vyjayanthimala
Vyjayanthimala is an Indian actress, dancer, and politician who was born on August 13, 1936 in Chennai, India. She also served as a member of the Indian parliament from 1984 to 1991, and from 1993 to 1999.
She received critical acclaim for her role in the 1955 period drama Devdas, which is considered her best performance. Throughout her career, she has won two BFJA Awards and five Filmfare Awards for her outstanding work.
Before gaining fame as an actress and politician, at the age of seven she was selected to perform a classical Indian dance for Pope Pius XII.
Vyjayanthimala was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1968 and retired from acting in 1970 after starring in the film Ganwaar. She declined a Filmfare Award for her role in Devdas stating that her co-star Suchitra Sen‘s performance was equally deserving of recognition.
Her parents are M.D Raman and Vasundhara Devi. She had one son named Suchindra Bali with her late husband Chamanlal Bali.
