About Viola Liuzzo
Viola Liuzzo was a White Unitarian Universalist civil rights activist who became a martyr for her cause when she was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan after the Selma to Montgomery marches. She was born on April 11, 1925 in Pennsylvania. Before fame, she dropped out of high school after one year. Following an early marriage and divorce at age 16, she later married George Argyris and had two children; subsequently marrying Anthony Liuzzo, with whom she had three more children.
She is remembered for her significant contribution to the Civil Rights Movement and her name is inscribed on the civil rights memorial located in Montgomery, Alabama.
