About Viktoria Mullova
Viktoria Mullova is a renowned Russian violinist, born on November 27, 1959. She is the founder of the Mullova Chamber Ensemble and has achieved significant success in her career, having won the 1980 International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition and the 1982 International Tchaikovsky Competition.
Prior to gaining international acclaim, Mullova grew up in Soviet Russia where she received her musical education at the Central Music School of Moscow before continuing her studies at the Moscow Conservatoire.
Notably, she made headlines when she fled the Soviet Union with one of her lovers while on tour in Finland. As they attempted to evade authorities, they were aided by a Finnish Broadcasting Company journalist who helped them cross into Sweden.
In her personal life, Mullova has been married to cellist Matthew Barley and has one child with him. Additionally, she has two children from previous relationships with Claudio Abbado and Alan Brind.
