About Vernice Armour
Vernice Armour, born on September 23, 1973 in Chicago, Illinois, is renowned as America’s first black female combat pilot. Following her active duty service in the United States Marine Corps from 1993 to 2007, she transitioned to a role as program liaison officer for the Manpower and Reserve Affairs Equal Opportunity Branch.
After retiring from military service in 2007, Vernice Armour shifted her focus to becoming an influential keynote and inspirational speaker. She directs her efforts towards advocating for leadership development and empowerment of women and other employees within their workplaces.
Prior to gaining recognition as a pioneering combat pilot, Vernice flew and survived the Iraqi conflict while piloting the AH-1W SuperCobra attack helicopter. Born in Chicago but raised in Memphis, TN, she graduated from Overton High School of Creative and Performing Arts with honors including membership in mathematical honor society Mu Alpha Theta and election as senior class vice-president. After graduation she enlisted in the military where she pursued flight school.
