About Vera Krepkina
Vera Krepkina is a former Olympic long jumper and sprinter from Russia, born on April 15, 1933. She primarily competed in the Women’s 4×100 relay and 100 meter events and was a multi-time European World Champion as well as a member of the Soviet Union women’s national team.
After retiring from her athletic career, Krepkina became an athletics coach for children. She initially began her professional track & field career during the 1950s and went on to win her first and only Olympic gold medal in 1960 during the Women’s Long jump event in Rome, Italy where she set an Olympic record by jumping 6.37 meters.
Krepkina grew up with her family in Kotelnich, Russia before later moving with her own family to Kyiv, Ukraine.
