VaShawn Mitchell is a successful gospel singer and songwriter, best known for his hit single “Nobody Greater,” which spent 9 weeks on the Billboard Gospel song chart after its release in 2011. Born on November 19, 1976, in Harvey, Illinois, he has been nominated for two Grammy Awards at the 53rd Grammy Awards. He began his music career as a teenager at St. Mark Baptist Church and later became the church’s Minister of Music.
He has released over half a dozen popular gospel albums and is recognized as a spokesperson for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Additionally, Mitchell has performed with the NAACP and created the Norman Youth & Arts Foundation to honor his grandfather. His hometown of Harvey named the street where he grew up VaShawn Mitchell Street.
