About Valie Export
Valie Export, born on May 17, 1940 in Austria, is a multimedia artist best known for her socio-politically themed installations and performance art pieces. She attended art school in Vienna during her teenage years and also worked on several films. In 1967, she changed her name to VALIE EXPORT (in capital letters) after a cigarette brand. As a wife and mother, her artistic experiments during the 1960s delved into the complex topic of Austrian feminism.
