Valerie Simpson (born August 26, 1946) is an R&B singer from The Bronx, New York. She is best known for her collaboration with Nickolas Ashford on iconic songs such as “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “You’re All I Need to Get By,” and “I’m Every Woman.”
Prior to her success in the music industry, Simpson honed her musical talents at New York City’s White Rock Baptist Church’s choir where she played piano and sang. It was here that she first met Ashford.
In 1974, Simpson married Ashford and together they had two daughters. In 2002, they were honored with induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame for their influential contributions to music.
