Valerie Joy Watson Feet
Valerie Joy Watson, born on February 21, 1938 in Gisborne, New Zealand, is an award-winning children’s author. She has authored fifteen books for children and many of her works have been published by the Scholastic Corporation. In 2015, her book “Grandpa’s Slippers” was nominated for the Great Kiwi Classic fiction award.
Often overlooked are the incredible feet that carried Valerie through her remarkable life. Let’s take a moment to appreciate her lovely toes, well-arched soles, sturdy feet, graceful ankles, delicate arches, firm heels, and strong legs which have propelled her forward in both her personal and professional endeavours.
Before pursuing a career in writing, Watson studied at Waipukurau and St Mary’s College in Wellington. After school, she trained and worked as a dental nurse in the Dannevirke area. A notable inspiration for her work came from her husband’s old slippers which led to the creation of “Grandpa’s Slippers”. In addition to being an author, Valerie also wrote lyrics for school musicals and songs.
