Usha Mangeshkar (born December 15, 1935) is a renowned World Music Singer from India, known for her prolific career as a playback singer in the Bollywood film industry that has spanned over seven decades. She has sung in various Indian dialects including Marathi, Manipuri, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Nepali, Bhojpuri, Gujarati and Assamese songs.
One of her most popular songs “Mungda” was featured in the 1972 Marathi movie Pinjara and subsequently released to the Hindi market under the same title in the same year. Usha gained recognition after her prominent role as a playback singer in the blockbuster hit Jai Santoshi Maa (1975), where she performed devotional songs for the film.
In addition to her successful musical career, Usha comes from a highly esteemed family within the Indian film industry. She is one of five children born to well-known Marathi actor Deenanath Mangeshkar and his wife. All of her siblings have been involved in music production for films; Hridaynath is a music director while all of her sisters are also playback singers with her youngest sister Meena being a composer as well.
