Tyka Nelson, born on May 18th, 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is an R&B singer known for her hit albums Royal Blue, Moon Yellow, Red Sky and A New Brand New Me. She gained popularity with her song “Marc Anthony’s Tune,” which reached the Top 40 on the Urban Contemporary charts. Tyka is also recognized as the half-sister of legendary musician Prince.
Before pursuing a career in music, she became involved in the industry after befriending a group of Apostolic Christian friends. Following Prince’s passing in 2016, she accepted his American Music Award for Top Soundtrack that same year.
Tyka was born to musicians John L. Nelson and Mattie Shaw and has several siblings including Prince as well as Omar, Alfred, John Sharon and Noreen.
