About Tsuru Aoki
Tsuru Aoki (September 9, 1892 – October 18, 1961) was a Japanese actress who gained popularity in American films during the early 20th century. Born in Japan, she emigrated to Los Angeles in 1903 where she began performing on stage at LA’s Japanese Theatre. Aoki caught the attention of producer Thomas Ince and was offered her first film role, marking the beginning of her successful acting career.
Recognized as one of the first Asian actresses to achieve prominence in American cinema, Aoki appeared in numerous films throughout the 1910s and 1920s. She was also known for her marriage to fellow actor Sessue Hayakawa from 1914 until their divorce in 1961.
Apart from her professional achievements, it is worth noting that she was adopted by her uncle when she was a young girl.
