About Toni Morrison
Toni Morrison, born on February 18, 1931 in Lorain, Ohio, is a renowned American novelist and educator. She is also a Professor Emeritus at Princeton University.
Some of her most well-known works include The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon, and Sula. Her novel Beloved won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1988.
Before gaining fame as an author, she was known as Chloe Ardelia Wofford. She graduated from Howard University with a degree in English in 1953 and later pursued graduate studies at Cornell University. Morrison’s first novel, The Bluest Eye, was published in 1970.
In addition to her literary accolades, Morrison received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993.
Morrison’s parents were Ramah Willis and George Wofford. In 1958 she married Harold Morrison; however, they divorced after having two children.
