Tkay Maidza is an absolute legend in the Australian hip hop scene. Just 17 when she released her debut single Brontosaurus, she went on to score hits with U-huh and Switch Lanes – which even made it onto Triple J’s Hottest 100 in 2014 when Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off was disqualified. Born Takudzwa Victoria Rosa Maidza, her parents moved to Australia from Zimbabwe when Tkay was five years old. After graduating high school at 16, she started studying architecture at University of South Australia before quitting to pursue music full time. Since then, Tkay has played various festivals around Aus including St Jerome’s Laneway Festival where Lykke Li had to cancel last minute!
