About Thao Nguyen
Thao Nguyen, born on March 19, 1984 in Virginia, is an American singer-songwriter who gained recognition both as a solo artist and as the lead vocalist and songwriter for the alternative/folk rock band Thao & the Get Down Stay Down. She has also collaborated with notable artists such as Merrill Garbus, Joanna Newsom, and Andrew Bird.
Nguyen began playing guitar and crafting songs at the age of 12 before forming her band in 2003. Outside of her musical pursuits, she has contributed to fundraising efforts for Oxfam America alongside Dianna Agron.
Born to Vietnamese refugees, Thao Nguyen’s experiences have undoubtedly influenced her artistry and perspective on life.
