About Tess Gallagher
Tess Gallagher (born July 21, 1943) is an American poet and author, hailing from Port Angeles, Washington. She is known for her works such as Instructions to the Double and Moon Crossing Bridge. Gallagher has received acclaim in her career, earning both the Elliston Award and the Maxine Cushing Gray Foundation Award.
Before beginning her literary career, Gallagher attended the University of Washington. Her debut poetry chapbook, Stepping Outside, was published in 1978. Notably, she has been honored with two National Endowment for the Arts awards.
In 1988 she married poet Raymond Carver.
