About Terrie Hall
Terrie Hall was an activist known for her campaign against the tobacco industry. She was born on July 19, 1960 in Mount Clemens, Michigan. Throughout her life, she battled eleven separate cancer diagnoses and recurrences before passing away at a young age.
Hall’s smoking habit began casually with friends at the age of 17 and escalated to a two-pack-a-day habit by her late teens after trying her first cigarette at age thirteen. At forty, she received an oral cancer diagnosis which led to the removal of her larynx due to throat cancer.
She gained attention for appearing in an anti-smoking television spot produced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is remembered as a prominent figure in the fight against tobacco use. Her father was also a smoker.
Hall grew up in Michigan and North Carolina as the daughter of Loretta McNutt and Gordon Ezben. She was married, but later divorced; from that marriage she had a daughter named Dana.
