Teresa Scanlan, born on February 6, 1993 in Colton, California, is a pageant contestant who made history by becoming the youngest Miss America winner since 1937. In 2010, she won the title of Miss Nebraska before being crowned Miss America in 2011.
Scanlan was homeschooled until her junior year of high school and then attended Scottsbluff High School. Her platform during pageants focused on raising awareness about eating disorders. She comes from a family with Croatian immigrant grandparents named Frank and Nives Jelich.
