Tamyra Mensah-Stock (born October 11, 1992) is an American wrestler who made history as the first black woman to win a gold medal for the USA in women’s freestyle wrestling. At the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, she secured the country’s second-ever gold medal in this category.
Born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Houston, Texas, Tamyra attended Morton Ranch High School in Katy where she joined the wrestling team at age 15. She went on to become the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association Nationals Champion in both 2014 and 2017 while pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sports Science at Wayland Baptist University.
Notably, Tamyra was also recognized for her achievements beyond sports when she was honored with induction into Wayland Baptist University’s Hall of Honor.
