About Tamyra Gray
Tamyra Gray, born on July 26, 1979 in Takoma Park, Maryland, is a pop singer best known for her fourth place finish on the inaugural season of American Idol. She was a favorite of judge Simon Cowell.
Before gaining fame on American Idol, Gray won the 1998 Miss Atlanta title and studied entertainment business and law at Georgia State University. She also appeared in a Coca-Cola commercial and worked various odd jobs.
After her stint on American Idol, Gray had a recurring role on the TV series Boston Public and starred in Broadway productions of Rent and Bombay Dreams. She co-wrote Fantasia Barrino‘s hit single “I Believe.”
Born in Takoma Park but primarily raised in Norcross and Stone Mountain, Georgia, Tamyra Gray married R&B vocalist Sam Watters. The couple welcomed their daughter Sienna Marie in July 2010.
