Tammy Baldwin, born on February 11, 1962 in Madison, Wisconsin, is a prominent Democratic politician. In 2013, she made history by becoming the first female US Senator from Wisconsin after serving as a U.S. Representative from 1999 to 2013. Prior to this role, she represented Wisconsin’s 2nd district as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives for 14 years.
Before her political career at the federal level, Baldwin held a position on the Dane County Board of Supervisors from 1986 to 1994.
Baldwin’s election also marked another historic moment as she became the first openly gay US Senator in American history; despite this milestone achievement, she stated that she “didn’t run to make history.” She formerly lived with her long-time domestic partner Lauren Azar before their separation in 2010.
