Tamika Catchings, born on July 21, 1979 in Stratford, New Jersey, is a former professional basketball player known for her illustrious career in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) with the Indiana Fever. Before rising to prominence in the WNBA, she excelled as a star player for the University of Tennessee women’s basketball team.
Despite being born with a hearing disability and having to wear a hearing aid initially, Catchings persevered and achieved remarkable success both on and off the court. Notably, during her high school years, she accomplished an unprecedented feat by recording the first-ever quintuple double in 1997 – amassing 25 points, 18 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 steals and 10 blocks in a single game.
