About Tamara Press
Tamara Press was a Russian shot putter and discus thrower born on May 10, 1937 in Kharkiv, Ukraine. She is best known for winning three Olympic gold medals and one silver over two Olympics.
Before her fame, Press achieved success by winning gold at the 1958 European Championships in Stockholm.
Throughout her career, she faced accusations of being a hermaphrodite as well as allegations of being injected with male hormones. Despite this controversy, she continued to compete at an elite level and solidify her legacy as one of the greatest female athletes of her time.
In addition to her own accomplishments, Tamara’s younger sister Irina Press also competed in track and field at the Olympic level.
