Sydney, Lady Morgan Feet
Sydney, Lady Morgan was a celebrated Irish novelist, born in Dublin on December 25, 1781. Her work, particularly the novel “The Wild Irish Girl,” captivated readers upon its release in 1806 and quickly rose to popularity, even reaching its fourth US edition by 1807. Known for her literary prowess, she initially began her writing career crafting poetry before transitioning to prose, with her 1804 novel “St. Clair” garnering significant acclaim. Not only recognized for her novels, but a bust of her head is featured at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum as well as at David d’Angers’s personal museum. Delving further into storytelling, Morgan published companion novels named “France” in 1817 and “Italy” in 1921. In both artistry and influence, she left an indelible mark on the literary world. Alongside her noteworthy achievements, she shared life with English writer and surgeon Sir Thomas Charles Morgan.
