About Susanne Bier
Susanne Bier, born on April 15, 1960 in Copenhagen, Denmark, is a renowned director. She made history as the first female director to ever win a European Film Award and gained attention from Netflix viewers as the director of Bird Box. Some of her notable works include Brothers (2004), After the Wedding (2006), and In a Better World (2010).
Before pursuing filmmaking, Bier studied art at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem and architecture at the Architectural Association in London. She eventually gravitated towards film again and graduated from the National Film School of Denmark in 1987.
Bier was also a member of the jury at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival. In her personal life, she was married to Swedish actor and director Philip Zanden with whom she has children named Gabriel and Alice; subsequently she married singer and composer Jesper Winge Leisner.
