Susana Martinez is an American politician who was born on July 14, 1959 in El Paso, Texas. She made history as the 31st Governor of New Mexico when she became the first female governor of the state and the first female Hispanic governor in US history in 2011.
Martinez gained her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1986 before embarking on a career in politics. Prior to assuming office as Governor, she served as a Republican district attorney.
Her achievements and influence were recognized when Time magazine included her among its list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2013.
Martinez’s family heritage includes a connection to Mexican Revolutionary general Toribio Ortega, who was her great-grandfather.
