About Susan Glaspell
Susan Glaspell was born on July 1, 1876 in Iowa. She was a renowned playwright and is best known as the co-founder of the first modern American theater company, the Provincetown Players.
Before gaining fame as a playwright, she was raised on a farm in Iowa. In 1931, she won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play Alison’s House.
Glaspell married fellow playwright George Cram Cook from 1913 to 1924. Her contributions to American theatre and literature continue to be celebrated and studied today.
