Born in Japan to actor Sagoromo Kurishima, she learned Japanese dance at a young age and joined Shochiku studio in 1921. Known for often portraying tragic heroines on screen, she made her debut in director SAseki Natsume’s The Poppy. She was married to director Yoshinobu Ikeda.
