About Sukumari
Sukumari, born on October 6, 1940 in India, was a celebrated movie actress known for her National Film Award-winning performance in the 2010 Malayalam and Tamil-language film Gramam. Over the span of her impressive six-decade career, she appeared in more than two thousand movies.
Before gaining fame as an actress, Sukumari received training as a dancer during her childhood years and toured throughout India with her cousins Padmini, Ragini, and Lalitha Travancore. She made her debut at the age of eleven in the Tamil movie Or Iravu.
In recognition of her contributions to Indian cinema, Sukumari was honored with both Filmfare and Asianet Lifetime Achievement Awards in 2005. She was married to film director A. Bhimsingh from 1959 until his passing in 1978; together they had a son named Suresh who also pursued a career as an actor.
