About Stephanie Frappart
Stephanie Frappart, born on December 14, 1983 in Paris, France, is a French football referee. She has been on the FIFA International Referees List since 2009.
In 2019, she made history by becoming the first woman to referee a major men’s European match and a French Ligue 1 match. Two years later, in 2021, she again broke barriers by being the first woman to take charge of a men’s World Cup qualifying match. In 2022, Frappart was selected as one of three women to officiate at the men’s World Cup. This marked her as the first woman to referee a World Cup match as part of an all-female referee team.
Frappart started her refereeing career at just 13 years old and was officiating national games by age 18. Her professional journey took off when she began refereeing matches at the Championnat National in 2011 and later participated in the FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Canada in 2015.
In May of 2022, Frappart made headlines for refereeing the Coupe de France Final between Nice and Nantes. Later that year on December 1st, she achieved another record by officiating an impactful World Cup match between Costa Rica and Germany.
