Soundarya Ashwin is an Indian director born on September 20, 1984, in Chennai, India. Before her directorial debut with the 2014 Tamil film Kochadaiiyaan, she produced the romantic comedy Goa and provided graphic design work for various Tamil movies.
She began her career as a cinematic graphic designer in 1999 by working on the Tamil drama Padayappa. Soundarya also founded and led a production company called Ocher Picture Productions.
Soundarya comes from a family involved in the Indian film industry; her sister Aishwarya Rajinikanth is also a director. Their parents are renowned film actor Rajinikanth and cinematic playback vocalist Latha Rajinikanth. In 2010, Soundarya married businessman Ashwin Ramkumar.
