About Sophie Calle
Sophie Calle (born October 9, 1953) is a French illustrator, conceptual and installation artist, as well as a photographer. She is best known for her works that delve into human interactions, with notable projects including “Suite Venitienne” in 1979 and “The Shadow” in 1981.
Before gaining fame, Calle spent seven years traveling after college before returning to Paris where she developed her unique artistic observation style akin to surveillance.
Her work has been influenced by the French literary movement Oulipo, which explores the concept of restraint. Calle was born and raised in Paris, France.
