About Sonia Nassery Cole
Sonia Nassery Cole is a director known for her work on the film The Black Tulip, which was Afghanistan’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2010 Academy Awards. Born in Afghanistan on December 5, 1968, she escaped the country after the Soviet invasion in 1979 when she was just 17.
In addition to her career as a filmmaker, Sonia Nassery Cole has made significant contributions to humanitarian causes. She established the Afghanistan World Foundation, which has funded projects such as the construction of a hospital for women and children.
She comes from a family with ties to diplomatic service; her father was an Afghan diplomat.
