Sonia Gomez is a pop singer known for her work as the vocalist and guitarist for the Spanish all-female pop trio Sweet California. Born on July 28, 1991, in Seville, Spain, she gained recognition for performing covers and original songs in both Spanish and English.
Prior to her music career, at the age of 13, Gomez starred in a production of West Side Story. She later joined a band called Stranger Mouses and released an EP. Moving from band to band, she recorded songs on her YouTube channel “Sonia Obviously” before being discovered by a talent agent seeking to put together a girl group in 2013.
Notably, Sweet California received seven music nominations and three wins in 2014 alone. They were recognized with an MTV European Music Award for Best Spanish Artist and an MTV Spain Best Video of the Year award.
Gomez’s father taught her how to play guitar, with whom she has been close since childhood; additionally she has a younger brother named David. As the oldest member of Sweet California, Sonia’s signature blue hair became one of her recognizable features during performances.
