About Sister Souljah
Sister Souljah, born Lisa Williamson on January 28, 1964 in The Bronx, New York, is a prominent novelist known for her wide-ranging career that has included roles as a recording artist, music executive, film producer and activist.
She gained prominence after making remarks about race during the 1992 presidential campaign that led to public criticism from Bill Clinton and gave birth to the term “Sister Souljah Moment” in politics.
Before achieving fame as an artist and activist, she founded the African Youth Survival Camp for children of homeless families while attending Rutgers University. In addition to her musical contributions with Public Enemy and her solo project titled “360 Degrees of Power,” Sister Souljah has been active in various social causes throughout her career.
She currently resides in Englewood, New Jersey with her husband Mike Rich and their son Michael Jr., but she spent much of her childhood living in poverty in The Bronx before moving to suburban New Jersey.
